Privacy Policy

What this is
PennyOtter is a personal finance tracker for a single household. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and who can see it.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address and password (stored and managed by our authentication provider, Supabase — we never see or store your password in plain text), and your two-factor authentication setup.
- Financial data: if you choose to connect a bank or credit card account via Plaid, we receive and store that account's balance and transaction history (merchant names, amounts, dates, and categories) for as long as the connection stays active.
We only request the minimum data needed for the app to work — currently just transaction and balance data. We do not request or receive your bank login credentials; those are entered directly into Plaid's own secure interface and never pass through our servers.
How we use it
Solely to provide the app's own features to your household: showing balances, categorizing spending, detecting recurring bills, tracking savings goals, and building a shared calendar. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell or share it with any third party for their own purposes.
Who can see your data
Only members of your own household — enforced at the database level, not just in the app's interface, so your data is never visible to another household using the app. Every account is also protected by mandatory two-factor authentication.
Third parties we use
- Plaid — to connect and retrieve data from your linked bank accounts. Your use of Plaid is also governed by Plaid's own privacy policy.
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider, which stores your account and financial data.
- Vercel — hosts the application itself.
None of these providers are permitted to use your data for their own purposes — they process it only to provide their service to this app.
How long we keep your data
Your data is kept for as long as your account and any linked bank connections remain active. Disconnecting a bank account immediately removes its balance and transaction history. Deleting your account removes all of your data.
Your choices
You can disconnect any linked bank account at any time from Settings. To delete your account entirely, contact us at the email address below.
Children
This app is not directed at, or intended for use by, children.
Changes to this policy
